TRUTH OR DARE - 1991
TRUTH OR DARE - A PROVOCATIVE LOOK AT SUPERSTAR
Truth or Dare, the new rockumentary documenting Madonna's 1990 Blond Ambition Tour is a rare treasure. This is a tour-de-force Madonna extravaganza, filled with spectacular concert footage and true blue celebrity satire.
During her tour, Madonna allowed Director Alek Keshisian to film her most intimate conversations, her most controversial situations, and her most private moments. The film gets it's title from an old parlor game that Madonna and many of her shows dancers play in between performances.
Madonna's relationship with her dancers and crew is the main focus of the film. She expresses sides of her personality that most celebs wouldn't dream of for fear of public backlash. Well, we all know Madonna isn't like that! She comes off as bitchy and demanding at times while still being able to express a maternal and sensitive side to herself as well.
If nothing else, you have to give this Boy Toy credit for her honesty. Whether it's sincerity or pretension, no one really knows except maybe the Material Girl herself.
There's no doubt that Madonna has created a self-absorbed ego trip of a film here but who's to say that any of her public wouldn't react the same once they reached the status of fame and power that Madonna has?
Whether your a Madonna wannabe or not, you may not walk away from this film a Madonna fan but you will be witness to some excellent concert footage while gaining some insight on what drives this self-obsessed publicity machine to do the things she does...
