EDUCATE YOURSELF
The more we become educated as individuals the more we grow as a society and a nation. The further we explore human sexuality and research the male and female species we have learned so much and will continue to learn. When the feminist movement occurred in the early 1970’s, it was all about women. When the gay activist movement appeared on the scene, the focus was gay men and lesbian women. Now, with sex and gender activism, the focus is on all men and all women. Many individuals are found to not meet the “traditional stereotype” of being a male or female. If you do not possess the characteristics of being a feminine female and/or a masculine male, you are considered not of the norm of society. There have been individuals born with both genitalia – a penis and vagina. Doctors and or Parents would make a decision to make the person a male or female thus sometimes leaving this individual with a lifetime of crisis with their sexual identity. We are on the right path here with research, education, and the fight for human rights for all people. I hope one day there will be the compassion and equality for others that we all deserve.
I think we will always have to continue to fight to educate the people of the world. I do believe that no matter how much research studies show about gays, lesbians, or transgendered individuals, people are going to protest against others that are not of the “norm”. The question can be raised “What is the norm?” Many people say depending on their religious beliefs and will quote the Bible as any relationship not being of a man and a woman is unnatural. Others will say there has always been relationships between individuals of the same sex and will quote the Bible with examples. It all comes down to one person’s interpretation of something. It is one person’s opinion of something. We cannot make laws against particular groups of individuals based on their male or female sexuality unless we condone violating civil rights. Have we not learned from history with forcing blacks into slavery? What about not allowing blacks and white to marry one another? Did we not witness the genocide of millions of Jews who were exterminated simply due to the fact of their heritage? All human beings need to become activists and march for the civil rights of all Americans whether they are White, Black, Hispanic, Asian, Male, Female, Gay, Straight, Lesbian, or Transgendered. We need to continue to educate all people that we are all equal whatever our beliefs might be personally. We are all individuals and should be treated with dignity and respect.
